Update: Ryleigh’s Oyster / No Way Jose Cafe ‘pocalypse

So there I was, all set to potentially attend a meeting put on by the Federal Hill Hospitality Association tonight around 8pm in an effort to get a full update on what the status regarding one Ryleigh’s Oyster owner (INO) Brian McComas (who is also the president of the Federal Hill Hospitality Association, gee whiz) and what the fate of No Way Jose Cafe may or may not be in the near future, when word has circulated that the meeting has been cancelled. Cancelled, and postponed until July 20th.

This seems mostly unremarkable, with the exception of the fact that the Liquor Board was scheduled to hold a hearing this coming Thursday hammering away at the issue of Ryleigh’s expansion into the Jose business space, which has also been postponed – to July 14th (tentatively, according to Jose owner Jennifer McMullan). July 14th, six days prior to the July 20th meeting in which the FHHA will discuss the *potential outcome* of the situation, after it has (also potentially) already been determined.

Realistically, I don’t expect much of an outcome – positive or otherwise – out of the 14th meeting, or the 20th meeting for that matter. If the whole Tiki Barge fiasco can drag on for months on end, this could potentially go on for eons. But you never know, enough conflicting information has been circulating as of late regarding the sale of 38 E Cross St. that it’s difficult to tell what exactly is going on. In the meantime, the folks at No Way Jose Cafe are a set of patrons are circulating a petition for interested parties to sign, protesting the whole process in general. Which as far as the postponement goes, is a good thing, as it will give them additional time to drum up support …so we’ll see how that goes.

Stay tuned!
