DATELINE: BALTIMORE, MD 9:00AM WEDNESDAY – The HTC Eris alerted the user that a tweet had been made:

And so, the yearly popularity contest begins: Bmag’s reader’s poll is up, and somehow The City That Breeds has been nominated.
….which is great, but Baltimore Magazine’s reader’s poll has historically generated a great deal of yawn-inducing winners in just about every category; case in point, last year’s “Best Bread” award went to frigging Panera, while “Best Burgers” went to Five Guys (also couldn’t help but notice that Lagers is still listed in multiple categories this year, hilarious). Certainly, since it’s up to the readers the publication isn’t necessarily to blame, but in the case of last year’s “Best Blog (non-Baltimore Magazine)” I’m pretty sure three out of the top three winning blogs were all hosted by the Baltimore Sun – which is not to say the Baltimore Sun blogs aren’t worthy of praise in a lot of cases, but they certainly don’t qualify as independent by any stretch of the imagination. And for us self-publishers, it’s difficult nearly impossible to compete with blogs that routinely have the distinction of 100k+ pageviews monthly in some cases
Which is why, dear readers, I’m asking you and everyone in the Baltimore Tubeiverse to vote Independent this summer season; it’s like buying local, only instead of organic spinach or free range chickens, it’s self-published blogs. Out of the list so far, here are the local blogs that could use your attention (will be updated as time allows):
- Baltimore Sports and Life
- Dining Dish
- Mobtown Shank
- Scary mommy
- The Baltimore Chop
- The City That Breeds <——- THIS ONE IS PRETTY GOOD GUYS
And really, this voting locally stratagem ought to apply to every category – seriously, I don’t care who wins “Best Bread” this year but it better not be Panera or Five Guys for “Best Burgers.” The deadline for poll submissions is June 17th, you must vote for at least 10 categories to submit a ballot. REPRESENT THE CITY, PEOPLE! SHOW THEM COUNTY FOLKS WHAT FER!
So if I find a blog in the park, I should eat it?
Baltimore Magazine is made for the the parts and people of Baltimore that do not really exist. It is a completely different world.
Thanks for the nod.
This poll has been up for a while now. I sent Baltimore Magazine a snarky tweet when i first saw it, and they explained that the only entities that they bothered to put on the ballot were previous winners.
Kind of like saying “Governor: vote for one…”
> Bob Ehrlich
> Write in
It’s a very poor way to run poll, even one such as this. Voting locally is definitely the way to go.
who is Sessa voting for???
Whoever buys him the most drinks. Wait, did I type that, or just think it?
