Say hello to your “Team No Way Jose” t-shirts

A few weeks following the boycott of Ryleigh’s Oyster in Federal Hill over the possibility of a perceived “hostile takeover” by ownership attempting to buy the property leased by No Way Jose Cafe (allegedly without their knowledge), some neighborhood citizens are continuing to express solidarity, others couldn’t care less, while Muggsy’s Mug House owner Danny has done something clever girl-esque.

From the loins of controversy come the “Team No Way Jose” t-shirts, which are being sold for $20 at Muggsy’s Mug House (1236 Light St., Federal Hill), all proceeds going to support No Way Jose Cafe and their continuing efforts to stay in operation. The slogan on the shirt takes a tongue-in-cheek jab at Jonathan Swift’s famous quote “He was a bold man who first ate an oyster” – a quote featured prominently on the wall at Ryleigh’s Oyster, widely used as the establishment’s preferred slogan.

He was a bold man who first bought a “Team No Way Jose” t-shirt and wore it to Ryleigh’s Oyster.      -Evan

  1. before things get blown out of proportion here in “Federal High School” i am aware the deal is done i dont expect to change the course of events. the purpose of the shirts is to show solidarity and let jenn know that we are on her side of the issue. i am all for expansion and business down here flourishing my problem is we are no longer looking out for each other in this neighborhood. there is no reason to close a viable working business so that another one can “improve.”

  2. I’ll split the cost of “Team Couldn’t Care Less” shirts with someone. The folks at No Way should relocate and open a sardine-packing factory with no air conditioning, since that is what my experience there has always most closely resembled.

  3. Maybe No way Jose should just suck it up, and move to a better location in one of the abandoned or empty locations in Federal Hill. I can only see this as an improvement in getting off of cross street where half the buildings are abandoned, and green fluids leak down the street.s
