The National High Five Project is a non-profit dedicated to high-fiving to raise money for cancer research. This year on April 18, participants across the nation pledge to give high fives all day long while participating in a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign.
Funds raised on National High Five Day go to five cutting edge research institutions:
•The Gateway For Cancer Research
•The Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute
•The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
•The V Foundation for Cancer Research
•The UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The annual event started on the University of Virginia campus in 2002 when a group of friends decided that the third Thursday in April would be dedicated to giving high fives. The event is based on the model of a “fun run,” but instead of running, people dedicate the day to giving “highfives to save lives.”
In 2010, the National High Five Project was incorporated and received the IRS distinction as a fully tax-deductible charity. It was been featured by the NBC’s Today Show, USA Today and hundreds of other media outlets around the nation.
