Speaking of bars being sold, Fells Point’s own favorite bar/club Reefers (711 S Broadway) is out, having been sold to a T/A known as “Dogwatch Tavern,” which appears to be the name of “A Real English Pub in Antiqua.” Crap, I though it would end up being some sort of dog-show-themed bar, which would be awesome. At any rate, judging from the potential setup it would seem as though Reefers will morph slightly into a Caribbean-English restaurant of sorts, eventually with outdoor seating and live music.
And good lord, does that place need a makeover. I’ve been to Reefers only a few times for a few immensely inebriated dance parties, and the only thing I can remember thinking was “This place smells” and “Hey look at that bubbler column with glasses ehehehehehe.” Eh, still a decent place to have an inebriated dance party if you hold your nose I guess.
At least Rodos is still left amirite!
Update: As of 6/9/2011, the transfer has been approved – ownership is a former manager at JA Murphy’s (1703 Aliceanna St), an otherwise successful business, so Dogwatch Pub could do fairly well. Best of luck.
Dogwatch is a nautical term meaning a short (2 hour) deck watch stood near the supper hour.
Fear not though… with the new law in effect, every bar that features outdoor seating is about to become a dog-show themed bar, whether on purpose or not.
