Million Dollar Idea: The Beer Stock Ticker
I recently took a trip out to the bowels of Columbia to check out Frisco Taphouse and Brewery (6695 Dobbin Rd., Columbia), where their beer list is not – as most places – in the form of a printed menu (which would cost very little), but rather a huge and presumably expensive flat panel display, listing their selection with ABV values alongside the name. It reminded me of an airport departure board rather than a menu, but a few days later I happened to be sitting in a certain recently sold bar/restaurant with a certain bar owner and the awesome idea was born: Enhance the beer menu by making it a STOCK TICKER! Follow me on this here: Every keg is placed on a scale, which monitors the weight of the … Read entire article »

More TX Based Wingstops on the way, Cluck U still better
Noticed today via Dining@Large and a few other sources that the Texas Based food chain Wingstop, who specialize in chicken wings (durr) will be opening up to 20 new locations in the Bmore/Wash region in the next few years. This inevitably got me thinking about Laurel, MD based (now with a location in Lebanon!) Cluck-U Chicken and how awesome they are. I mean, they’ve got buffalo pizza fries in certain locations, and nearly every one I’ve been to is BYOB. Their wings are great, tossed in either BBQ-based or vinegar-based (“traditional”) buffalo sauce, with their hottest flavor “911″ requiring a waiver before purchase – which I’ve had one time in the form of a toothpick dipped in the sauce, resulting in my drunken agony-writhing on the floor of the Towson location. … Read entire article »

Tying it all together: Frank Zappa Day and Movember in Baltimore
As it was widely reported this past Sunday, a big ol’ statue of Frank Zappa’s head – Baltimore’s own prolific avant garde rock/jazz/classical/everything else musician and defender of free speech – was dedicated in Highlandtown in front of a crowd of billions. While the idea as to where it should have gone was expressed a little while ago, I’m sure everyone is pleased as punch that the head finally has a home in Baltimore. And if I might for a minute suggest to you all – watch this, one of Frank’s final interviews in 1993 on the Today Show, where he quietly expresses some of his opinions on his career, the sickness that cut his life prematurely, and how he wanted to be remembered – only a few short months before … Read entire article »
