Baltimore Beer Week is roughly two weeks away, the weeklong celebration of all things Beer that has seen a truly meteoric rise in popularity year-over-year and swollen in scope to over 250 events (mostly happy hours with different beers on tap than usual, but whatever). And of course it’s physically impossible to attend even a sliver of them unless you really like cirrhosis, and while the biggest events are common knowledge, I wanted to sift through allllll of these beer-related events and pick out the ones that stand out for me and my “distinctive” (not at all distinctive) sensibilities. Behold, my top picks for Baltimore Beer Week, in no particular order:
Star Spangled Banger Parade – 10/6 12:00pm-6:00pm
If you’re truly insane and willing to take a day off of work on a Thursday and drink allll day, meet up with a bunch of folks at Fort McHenry National Monument (2400 E Fort Ave., Locust Point) and stroll along the way with the mallet used to open the keg at the opening tap party (at Ram’s Head Live), presumably drinking at bars the whole time. A six hour bar crawl combined with a three hour party (with beer) at Ram’s Head? Nice.
Chili Brew IV – 10/14 7:00-10:00pm
Liam Flynn’s Ale House is graciously sponsoring this year’s chili-cookoff-meets-homebrew competition at Load of Fun (120 W North Ave., Charles North), with a suggested donation of $10-20 to benefit Velocipede and Baltimore Free School. Chili and beer go together so well it ought to be criminal, which means everyone at this thing should be arrested immediately.
Harry and the Hendersons – 10/8 4:00-6:00pm
Hahahahahahaha Max’s Taphouse (737 South Broadway, Fells Point) is showing 1987’s most classic film, Harry and the Hendersons, in their upstairs bar featuring Great Divide’s Yeti line of brews on tap. That’s awesome.
Bacon Happy Hour – 10/7,8 5:00pm -close
Mount Airy is way the hell outside of the city, but for two days after 5pm Mount Airy Inn (1401 South Main Street) is giving away free bacon for every beer purchase. Unless the bacon is uncooked, in which case forget it.
Baltimore Brewer’s Crab Feast – 10/12 7:00-10:00pm
Red Brick Station (8149 Honeygo Blvd., White Marsh) hi fives and teams up with The Brewer’s Art to bring an all-you-can-eat-and-drink crab feast, featuring the full line of Red Brick brews alongside Brewer’s Art’s’s’s immensely tasty selections. The pricetag is $45, which for a crab feast / all you can drink beer event is insanely cheap, I’d highly recommend this one folks.
Friday Sour Hour – 10/14 5:00pm-8:00pm
I don’t know why, but I love sour beers. Belgian lambics or anything with unnecessarily high amounts of acid that still gets you drunk for some reason tastes good to me. If you like sour beers too, check out Metropolitan (902 S Charles St., Federal Hill) where they’ll be offering some new and different sour beers and discounts on all of them.
Aaaaand those are my picks. Any other “smaller” events sound good that haven’t mentioned?
If you promote this one, I’ll scoop you on all the sordid historical details on these now-respectable establishments:

Are you giving the tour? Because if so consider me there!
I’ll be there as a junior presenter to Baltimore Beer Week’s Dominic Cantalupo and Great Rob Kasper from the Sun. It’s a Ravens bye Sunday (Oct. 9), so come on over the other side of the Harbor, hon!
