Scientology Digest 02/12/2008

The protest has come and gone, and what a protest it was. I was pretty shocked to see well over a hundred people crowding around a small intersection just across the street of the church of scientology, spilling out across the street onto each corner, handing out fliers and waving banners around, encouraging cars passing by to honk in support of their protest. The weather was pretty miserable, but the event was really interesting nonetheless simply due to the fact that this rather extensive group of internet nerds, legitimate protestors, and people who were just there for the lulz really pulled it all together without any incidence of violence or police involvement.

All told, over 7,000 people protested worldwide, 5,000 of them in North America. Pretty impressive stuff considering it’s an unorganized, decentralized, mishmash of people all coming directly from the internet.

But anyway, you’re reading this because you want to see videos and pictures. Well, I’m not going to be putting the pictures up in the gallery because it’s mostly not worth it, plus I don’t want people poking around in my gallery by image searching for ‘scientology’ or anything like that. No, the more important thing here are the videos, all of which I have posted on YouTube.

Rick Rollin’ The Protest

In the past 2 days that these videos have been posted, they have accumulated over 25,000 views. The video of the young woman giving a speech has generated 10,00 views, and is the number 3 most viewed video in Education.

However. I received an email from a gentleman on YouTube who claimed that YT was freezing the viewcount on my videos in order to prevent them from reaching the front page of the website. Initially when I read it I thought surely he was full of it, what with all of the other objectionable content flying around on YT there was no reason to stifle mine. But lo and behold, I navigate to the Education section and note that my videos have not been appearing despite the fact that their numbers outrank most on the list. Others on the internet have been tending to agree with this outcome, as their protest videos from the UK and other parts of the world have been similarly pushed back. Personally, I think it’s just a matter of YT being unable to keep up with the speed at which it operates. But who knows.

I digress. One intrepid anon crafted a very well done and lengthy video entitled “The Road to February 10th” which is pretty impressive, and inspiring for future events – the next of which is March 15th, L. Ron Hubbard’s birthday.

And for extensive laffs, another anon called the columbus office of scientology and spoke about the protest AS a scientologist.

So much more to come, stay tuned superfriends.
